Vitamin B1 or Thiamine is an essential B vitamin and nutrient, as it cannot be synthesized by the body and needs to be obtained from our diet.
Vitamin B1 plays a vital role in many metabolic reactions; the body needs thiamine to manufacture ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is needed for cells to use as energy. B vitamins are water soluble and cannot be stored in the body.
Like other B-complex vitamins, Vitamin B1 is sometimes called an “anti-stress” vitamin because it may strengthen the immune system and improve the body’s ability to withstand stressful conditions.
